Snow, Weather -

Vision - It's not just a cliche to the farmer

If you were in business over the past, um, I don't know, say, 35 years, you may have wrested with a vision statement. Possibly even its differences from a mission statement. But Vision, to the farmer, is crucial! For without vision the farmer could look out and see the snowy fields . . .

How easy it might be for the non-agri-businessman - or anyone who wants to feed himself and his family quality, nutritious food - to burrow down in the covers and wait for spring. But the farmer, ah!, No! he has vision! He knows the cycles are trustworthy. They may vary from year to year, but spring WILL follow winter. And in the heat of summer? Even on a February day after an ice/snow event in the Northeast, the farmer can visualize what is to arrive, based on was has been.

BTW . . . for those readers who do not recognize what we take for granted here, a/k/a 'rocks' . . . You may think they are nuisance, BUT . . . they provide drainage, especially in clay soils. They also do a fine job entrapping the BioMater mulch. And provide heat for early-season plants after absorbing radiation all day.

Farming, as with every other endeavor in life, will be much more pleasant when you see lemons, and make lemonade😃
