Late winter tease
So, for most of us in the Atlantic Northeast, winter was a non-event. But, true to form, we did get a snow 'storm' in late March. I will leave it to the scientists to debate whether the weather has made viruses, ticks and other pests worse this year. But this I DO know . . . don't plan your future harvest by worrying about past events. Time only moves one direction for us. And if we don't get going on planting, now, we will be searching for canned vegetables when autumn arrives.
Vision - It's not just a cliche to the farmer
If you were in business over the past, um, I don't know, say, 35 years, you may have wrested with a vision statement. Possibly even its differences from a mission statement. But Vision, to the farmer, is crucial! For without vision the farmer could look out and see the snowy fields . . . How easy it might be for the non-agri-businessman - or anyone who wants to feed himself and his family quality, nutritious food - to burrow down in the covers and wait for spring. But the farmer, ah!, No! he has vision! He knows the cycles are...
