Not much beats the excitement here at NorthEastSeed of those first sprouts! And if you have been forced to eat Basil grown by others, you may not recognize these: These are 3-day-old Basil! For the averge family, one 2020 flat like this will keep you in Pesto and Calabrese Salad all.summer.long! These early sprouts do best with a cool light, say 6,500K. If you go this route, remember that the seeds germinated in very even moisture, maintained by a non-permeable cover. Once uncovered, maintaining proper moisture is now a priority. Another herb that benefits from an early start is Dill....

Mid-January brings planting season! If you have a sunny window, you may want to think about starting some herbs. Some old autumn Parsley is on its last legs, so we put in some Mammoth Dill and Basil today. But, back to the tears. Since peppers will not get leggy in the greenhouse, we also planted California Wonder and, you guessed it, Early Jalapenos.

So the ski slopes are open. It was in the single digits Fahrenheit the other day, and it's not yet officially winter. But it is on day two of rain here, and the forecast is for 50 F today!  Only 3 weeks until the first seeds are planted here at NorthEastSeeds!

Eggplant thrive in a long, hot season. That is not how we would typically describe our growing seasons here at NorthEastSeed.We get those type of seasons, but not usually in succesive years. But 2019 made the third year in a row that the eggplant grew well. Yet another thing to be gratefull for.
