Snow -

So, for most of us in the Atlantic Northeast, winter was a non-event. But, true to form, we did get a snow 'storm' in late March. I will leave it to the scientists to debate whether the weather has made viruses, ticks and other pests worse this year. But this I DO know . . . don't plan your future harvest by worrying about past events. Time only moves one direction for us. And if we don't get going on planting, now, we will be searching for canned vegetables when autumn arrives.

coronavirus, Social distancing -

Specifically, the turkeys in this case. Despite the changes that the currently popular Coronavirus may have imposed upon you, you still need to eat well. In fact, eating well pays all sorts of health dividends. So if you have extra time right now, spend a little of that time preparing to eat some home grown produce this summer. It's a great time to get your seeds going! Just make sure to stay 6' from your nearest greenhouse buddy😉

Dill, Potting Up -

We are big fans of soil blocks here at NorthEastSeed. A standard 1020 tray will accommodate 21 blocks. This flat of Dill was potted up during the past week. We will pot up one more flat in a few weeks. These two flats will provide production for our consumption PLUS our total seed harvest.   Tempting as early season fresh dills is, we will give these a few more weeks to grow before we start sneaking sprigs for eggs, fish, salads, etc!

 Even though the NE has seen a mild winter so far, many of the heat-loving plants we love to grow are just not going to do well before Groundhog Day. But, fear not! If they demand more sun before they sprout, you can always try again tomorrow. And tomorrow. And tomorrow. Yeah, okay you get the point.  But there are more summer treasures that can be started before Punxsutawney Phil makes his appearance!
